Long time no blog...

I haven't been feeling particularly inspired to blog the last few months.... call it the warm weather or call it the self medicating ;) but I'm suddenly feeling the motivation to put a little more effort into this thing.... so, off we go...

While I know I've missed the chance to comment on some major fashion news (Galliano, the arrival of baby Zoe, and Carine's departure from Vogue Francais), I think I'd rather focus on what I'm completely obsessed with for spring. My next two spring style fixations are a huge gold watch (I know its not a new idea but my trusty old Armitron has seen better days) and an interesting way to work some (gasp!) color into my look..

*I've narrowed my watch hunt down to either this chunky piece by Marc by Marc Jacobs (top) or a large-faced one by Fossil (bottom)... any thoughts?

*As for the color dilemma, I was thinking about mixing in a sharp piece (like a blazer or pencil skirt) in hot pink or cobalt blue... here's my inspiration...

First Day of Fashion Week: Rachel Zoe's first collection!

I figured there was no better way to kick off fashion week than by taking a look at the debut ready-to-wear collection from super stylist (and mommy-to-be) Rachel Zoe....

While I'm a gigantic Zoe fan, I must say that I wasn't expecting much from this collection. Some people create clothes and some people create style... I've always thought of Zoe as one of the latter but I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome of her first foray into clothing design.

The collection consists of great looking, wearable pieces that I could easily see myself in. I must say, however, that its lacking in the originality department. The inspiration ranged from YSL's 'le smoking' to Halston's disco glam but ended up just feeling like a "greatest hits" from Zoe's own closet. I can't say the clothes don't look amazing, I just hope that future collections show that Zoe has her own point of view as a designer...

Upcoming: NYFW!!!

As you may know, NY Fashion Week Fall 2011 is just around the corner (February 10th to be specific) and in the spirit of my favorite week of the year I thought I'd share what trends I'm loving for the upcoming season (that being spring... i hope) :)

70's Glam...

My favorite thing about this trend is that it loses the airy sweetness of past boho trends and replaces it with something shinier, tougher, and far more fabulous. Just ask Marc Jacobs (first pic, Spring 2011) or Rachel Zoe (second pic), the long-time patron saint of 70's glam...

Bell Bottoms..

While I'm still a fan of skinnies, I have to admit that I'm very excited for this trend to stick around. While Derek Lam (first image) seems to be setting the mood with a classic trouser feel, I've already picked up a few bargain pairs at NY&Co. for under $50!! (second image)

Stripes...

While the trend tends to be a bit more nautical, I love this how this striped look from Ann Taylor mixes a in a bit of Fall's military vibe...
