Celeb Street Style: Olivia Palermo

Let's not play games here people, I love 'The City'... yes, I love this east coast 'The Hills' spin off... yes, I am aware that its boring and doesn't even have a plastic surgery circus freak to stare at but I love it anyway!
I am also aware that Oliva Palermo is gigantic bitch.. seriously, she's so unnecessarily bitchy that I'm now 100% convinced that the whole show is a sham ( I should've probably dealt with that reality a lot sooner, huh?).
But I digress...
I find her everyday style to be practically flawless.... the perfect mix of femininity and tough enough for the big city.

Darlin' Don't You Go and Cut Your Hair

Considering that hair is my line of work, I was very intrigued by an article I spotted on Fashionista.com (click the link below to check it out). The writer talks about not only her own adjustment period after snipping off seven inches of hair, but the reactions of men in her life.

I find myself witnessing this phenomenon on a daily basis and still I wonder why we grow so attached to lengthy strands?
Is it the desire to feel feminine? or simply knowing that men prefer long locks? Have we not figured out that some combination of wit, charm, and breasts will attract a man regardless of our coif?
As someone who is growing her hair past her chin for the first time in nearly a decade, I can honestly say that I'm feeling the attachment grow. Friends and colleagues, male and female, comment on how much they prefer it when in fact, I don't think it looks as stylish or polished,at its current shoulder length, as my shorter looks.
But I can't lie.... I'm obsessed with my new hair!
I'd love to know what my readers think on this topic...
please comment or email me with your opinions and I'll share them in a future post!

Far Too Long...

Sorry for the long overdue post my dear friends...
Have you been asking yourself "what the hell has Kristyn been up to for the past week?" If so, mind your own damn business... just kidding :)

Until a few days ago I was in NYC for haircutting classes, followed by a few days back in the salon...
but I managed to squeeze a bit of shopping into my trip...

Here's what made it home..
Two vintage necklaces from one of my favorite shops, Beauty Crisis in the east village

And an oversize cocktail ring from Henri Bendel

I can't wait to go out and wear all this shiny stuff!

Cherry Bomb..

Monday evening, the boyfriend and I received passes to the first Baltimore screening of The Runaways. I'm sure everyone is aware of this film, which features Kristen Stewart (she of Twilight fame) and Dakota Fanning (child star extraordinaire) as Joan Jett and Cherie Currie, respectively. While the film will hold little appeal for anyone not a music buff or even familiar with the band, It an absolute blast to see the ladies rocking duds that reminded me why everyone looked bad ass back then. Gold lame halters, ripped tees, leather pants, platform shoes, intense make-up and chicks taking cues from Bowie.....
Great Jackets...
Big hair...
The real Runaways..
Just pray my hair isn't feathered next time you see me :)

Countdown to NYC!

One week until I hop a train for the Big Apple with my lovely co-worker Emily for a 4-day course at the Redken Exchange. Other fun on the agenda: Shopping!!!
My shopping goal when I go to New York is usually quite simple. I won't attempt to come home with a new wardrobe but with a few carefully selected pieces that I would never find in Baltimore. My last trip (for my birthday this past September with Edward) yielded a quirky pair of low-heeled oxfords from TopShop and 3 pieces of vintage jewelry from a great shop in the east village.
The lesson to be learned: you'll never go wrong with quality over quantity...
